RUBE
GOLDBERG COMPETITION
A Rube Goldberg Device (RGD) can take many forms. The idea came
from a cartoon strip and has evolved into a widespread institution.
Our rules:
Each student will make a box on his/her own that links to two neighboring
boxes
For grading, all boxes will be placed side by side and activated
The goal is to produce motion in the first box, which leads to the next
box, and so on, eventually coming back to the original box
Each box must have at least 4 moving parts
Boxes may be of any practical size, but none may be elevated on legs
No electricity may be used
No student shall reach into their box to "help things along" once the chain
reaction starts
PENALTIES:
One letter grade(10%) will be deducted for each of the following
infractions...
having to reach into a box each time a hangup occurs
# of moving parts below 4
not completing a clean handoff to the next box
not accepting a clean handoff from the previous box
lack of part variety
